SUMMARY:Artist Talk for Deborah Tomlin’s SUTRA
DESCRIPTION:The title SUTRA in sanskrit means to stitch\, to mend\, to bring together\, to heal. This body of work drew Tomlin to a more abstract approach to painting and drawing including the layering of collage materials and stitching directly on the canvas. Text based on comments by doctors and friends during her treatment is also significant to this work. Painting on top of overflowing and overlapping text expresses Tomlin’s grief and anger. Stitching directly on the canvas with yarn and thread reframes her sutures and scars through the lens of darning and mending\, traditionally women’s work\, transforming an object ripped and torn into a material stronger and more beautiful by the act of repair.

SUMMARY:Daniella Mestyanek Young Author Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a riveting talk from cult survivor\, veteran and author Daniella Mestyanek Young. Daniella was born a third-generation member of the infamous Children of God religious cult\, and grew up being trafficked around the world\, before escaping that life and moving to America at age 15. She put herself through high school and graduated as college valedictorian before commissioning into the US Army as an intelligence officer. That’s where she really started to think about group behavior…and seeing it\, well\, everywhere. She will be reading from her new book\, The Culting of America\, as well as answering questions. A Q&A\, and book sales and signing will follow. \nMost of us think we’d never fall for a cult. We picture robes\, chanting\, and remote compounds. But toxic groups don’t just exist on the fringe. They thrive in boardrooms\, group chats\, fitness classes\, political rallies\, religious groups\, and corporate retreats—anywhere we seek identity\, purpose\, and belonging. The Culting of America reveals how cultish behavior isn’t just thriving in modern life—it’s hiding in plain sight\, woven deep into the fabric of American identity. \nWhether you’re part of a church\, company\, fandom\, or political movement\, the question isn’t if you’re in a cult\, it’s how much of yourself you’ve already lost. \nYou can find Daniella Mestyanek Young’s books in our catalog here.

SUMMARY:An Evening With Rahsaan Patterson
DESCRIPTION:Music was Rahsaan Patterson’s destiny when he was named after jazz great Rahsaan Roland Kirk then as a child became a star on the television show Kids Incorporated appearing with future music stars Shanice and Fergie. Patterson began his music career behind the scenes writing songs for Brandy as well as session work as a backup singer for other well known artists. By the time he sought a record deal on his own\, there was a near bidding war over him by record labels which MCA won and released Patterson’s self-titled debut in 1997. Featuring Patterson’s magnificent voice\, the album was simultaneously retro and fresh the way Neo-Soul was always supposed to be. Patterson has an impressive range and control that few male vocalists can match from soaring falsetto to funky tenor-bass to operatic alto. \nPatterson’s music made it to urban adult radio garnering a truly loyal following with the popular single “Where You Are” still a favorite at his performances. His sophomore album “Love in Stereo” arrived in 1999 with a much more up-tempo sound and some of the freshest vocal arrangements heard in years. The songwriting was more personal as well\, humanizing Patterson to fans by inviting them into a cerebral and complex man’s mind and world. His future albums also featured exquisite singing\, songwriting\, arrangements and productions that have endeared Patterson to music lovers who appreciate an artist as pure and authentic as he is. Patterson is also known for his thrilling and inspiring live performances where he displays his amazing vocal range and control for a concert experience reflecting the best of Neo-Soul.

SUMMARY:The Roundlings Present: Mission Improv-ible
DESCRIPTION:The Roundlings are Round House Theatre’s teen comedy ensemble. These whimsical wits write and develop their own original comedy sketches\, song parodies\, and stand-up comedy. They also thrive while performing short-form improvisation games and long-form improvised scenes. Their new show features audience interactivity\, spontaneous silliness\, and hopefully…a lot of laughs.
