DESCRIPTION:If you can believe it\, August 30th will mark ONE YEAR since the historic opening of MoCo Pride Center in Bethesda. Over the past year\, we have achieved so much together. From maintaining regular support services and navigating care needs\, to feeding community and keeping folks aware of their health status\, it has been an honor to serve Montgomery County as your first physical LGBTQIA+ resource center. \nTo celebrate it all\, we’re throwing a birthday party! (It’s really more of a birthday weekend.) \nJoin us alongside community leaders and supporters for birthday festivities\, refreshments\, and investing in the future of the Pride Center. We’re also raising money to ensure that we can continue to provide essential services for another year! Every donation we collect helps sustain year-round LGBTQIA+ services\, care navigation\, community programming\, and other life-saving work. \nOn the evening of 8/29 (7-9 PM)\, celebrate one year of impact at MoCo Pride Center in Bethesda with a special anniversary celebration and fundraising reception featuring some of our most ardent supporters and sponsors. Then on our actual birthday\, 8/30\, come back to the Pride Center for some special promotions and giveaways! \nMore details are coming soon\, so mark your calendars for an extra special weekend of gratitude\, togetherness\, and pride. DESCRIPTION:TOWN HALL ART GALLERY EXHIBIT \nVal Lewton (1937-2015) “To paint is to see”\, August 31\, 2026\, through January 8\, 2027 \nBy Barbara Zeughauser – Town Hall Art Gallery Curator \nThe Somerset Town Hall Art Gallery is honored to present a special exhibition of artist Val Lewton’s work\, sponsored by his wife\, Claudia Minicozzi. Well known in the Washington area\, Lewton’s paintings are held in major public and private collections\, including the National Gallery of Art Corcoran Collection\, Smithsonian American Art Museum\, The Phillips Collection\, American University Katzen Center\, George Washington University\, and others. \nVal Lewton was born May 23\, 1937\, in Santa Monica\, California.  He graduated from Whitman College and earned a master of fine arts degree from Claremont University.  After moving to Washington\, DC\, he served on the staff of the Smithsonian American Art Museum for 32 years\, while maintaining a career as a painter in his own right.  Lewton died in 2015\, but soon afterwards\, exhibitions of his paintings were held at the Katzen Arts Center and Addison/Ripley Fine Art.  \nThe Val Lewton (1937-2015) “To paint is to see” exhibit will be on view from August 31\, 2026\, through January 8\, 2027\, in the Town Hall Art Gallery\, during regular Town Office Hours\, Mon-Fri\, 9am – 4:30pm.  The Official Opening and reception will be held on Sunday\, September 13\, 2026\, from 3:00-6:00PM.  All pieces will be available for sale.
