SUMMARY:Build a Play - Mother Goose!
DESCRIPTION:Come build a play with Adventure Theatre! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome and create the play\, Mother Goose\, based on the classic story! Students will build the play through creative drama\, consisting of dialogue\, creating characters\, and movement. They will also learn the basics of creating a set by painting their very own backdrop to enhance the story! An experienced early elementary education Teaching Artist will help the students transform the book into a show complete with costumes and props. Finally\, students will perform the play and show all they have learned. \nThis program is intended for children in grades three to five\, between the ages of eight and eleven. Registration is required for this program\, and will open September 4.

DESCRIPTION:Readers in Grades 4-6! Join “No Shelf Control\,” a book discussion group for kids 9-12. This month we’ll discuss “Efrén Divided” by Ernesto Cisneros\, a story of family and friendship across borders. Efrén Nava’s three-generational Mexican American family is close-knit and hardworking\, but his parents harbor a secret. Once it is discovered\, Efrén must take on unusual responsibilities for a boy his age and try to navigate life across both physical and cultural borders between two countries. In observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month\, this month we will discuss Ernesto Cisnero’s “Efrén Divided\,” the 2021 medal winner of the Pura Belpré Award for “outstanding works of literature for children and young adults that best portray\, affirm\, and celebrate the Latino cultural experience.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou can borrow a copy of the book\, along with a specially prepared reading guide for our group\, from the Connie Morella Library; just ask at either the Circulation Desk or Information Desk for the book for the October meeting of No Shelf Control.

Middle School Book Club welcomes ALL readers in grades 6\, 7\, and 8 for a monthly meeting and discussion of books chosen by a librarian just for this age group and read ahead of time. Anyone ages 11-14 is welcome! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you are in grades 6\, 7\, or 8 and love to read and have fun talking about books and characters\, Middle School Book Club is the place for you! Over the course of the school year\, we’ll read books with a wide range of genres—featuring characters your age and themes such as friendship\, family\, overcoming adversity\, confronting challenges\, sorting through conflicting values\, and navigating life\, school\, sports and other extracurricular activities\, other people’s expectations\, and their expanding knowledge of themselves and the world around them. We often use new books published within the last 5 years and acclaimed titles from such award programs as the Black-Eyed Susan Tapestry. Each session’s interactive discussions and hands-on activities will relate to the major topics and themes of the book in a fun and engaging way. \nEach month\, you can borrow a copy of the assigned book from the Connie Morella Library.
