SUMMARY:Textiles That Talk: Tales of Rugged & Refined Beauty
DESCRIPTION:Years of searching for striking fabrics\, fibers and stories culminate in our latest Folk Art is Fine Art installation\, a sensuous journey around the globe with stops in Indonesia\, Japan\, Thailand\, Laos\, Guatemala\, Mexico\, Panama\, Peru\, South Africa\, Madagascar\, Indonesia\, Bangladesh\, Turkey\, Kurdistan and Afghanistan. We chronicle the how and why that is so distinctive to each artist\, spotlighting their creative springboards built from generations of artistry and practice. Common to all: turning out high design with medium derived directly from Mother Nature. \nFind colorful Mayan iconography\, woven and wrapping carved wooden stools; striking Kurdish saddlebags of hand-spun camel hair and wool; Escher-like Indonesian silks. See how daily needs meet art in the form of fish nets\, floor coverings\, amulets and space definers. All exquisite museum-quality\, they are sourced from the earth and long held tradition. Their stories are even more striking.

SUMMARY:At the End of the World
DESCRIPTION:When the world is burning around you\, who do you want to be? In the wake of an apocalypse\, groups of teenagers discuss and explore their fears\, hopes\, and wishes in a desolate new world. Commissioned specifically for the Round House Theatre Teen Performance Company\, At the End of the World rages against injustice and violence\, while honoring the power of community\, friendship\, and taking action. \n\nThe Round House Theatre Teen Performance Company is a pre-professional program for the next generation of theatre artists. Round House gathers the region’s most creative young theatre artists and provides mentorship to them as they work on a play at our theatre. Selected students shadow productions on the Round House stage\, attend events and master classes with Round House company members\, and work closely with professional artists and practitioners at every step of the process. \nThe program culminates in The Sarah Metzger Memorial Play\, which is directed\, designed\, stage managed\, and performed by high school students. The Sarah Metzger Memorial Play was established by the Metzger family and friends to celebrate the memory of Sarah Metzger\, an inspiring and active member of the theatre community\, who was killed in an automobile accident during her freshman year of college.
