Adult & Young Adult Writing Contest
Deadline was Friday, March 21, 2008 by 5pm
Write a short story or essay about a major turning point in your life and enter the Bethesda Literary Festival Writing Contest! The contest will take entries in two categories – young adult (grades 9-12) and adult (ages 18+). Finalists will be featured at a special reading during the Bethesda Literary Festival, April 18-20, 2008. The top 10 essays will be printed and distributed throughout the festival.
Entry Requirements
Entries are limited to 500 words or less. Writers must specify whether they are entering the young adult or the adult contest. If entering the young adult contest, the entry form must include a signature from a parent or guardian. Entry form must be completed and submitted with essay. Entries can be mailed or faxed to 301-215-6664.
Cash awards
First place $500, Second place $250
Third place $150 - Honorable mention $50 Young adult winner $75
The first place adult winner will also receive a free class at The Writer’s Center.

Youth Writing Contest
Deadline was Friday, March 21, 2008 by 5pm
Who is the best teacher you have ever had? Did this teacher make school fun, interesting or challenging? Or maybe you learned the most from this teacher. The top three essays from age groups 5-8 and 9-13 and their authors will be featured at a special reading held during the Bethesda Literary Festival, April 18-20, 2008. Winners will also receive great prizes!
Entry Requirements
Only hard copies (on paper) will be accepted. Essays must be 100 to 500 words in length. Writers must be between 5 and 13 years of age and residents of Montgomery County, MD. Entry form must be submitted with essay.
