Alexandra May Ballance/Youth Dance Ensemble

Alexandra May Ballance reflects her inner-most soul through her choreography. She completed her first work, Disconnections, in 2008 at age 9. Her pieces have been performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Atlas Performing Arts Center, The Jack Guidone Theater, The Phillips Collection and Sidney Harman Hall’s Forum. In January 2010, she was a featured artist in the INTERSECTIONS Art Festival. Her work has been awarded for original choreography in the Reflections Achievement in the Arts Program. Alexandra studies with Joy of Motion Dance Center’s Youth Dance Ensemble (YDE) directed by Helen Hayes.

Culture Shock DC

Culture Shock, Washington, D.C. Inc. (CSDC) is a nonprofit hip-hop dance organization dedicated to innovative performance, artist development and community enrichment, revealing the power and beauty of hip-hop culture to diverse communities. CSDC is committed to using the art of hip-hop dance as a tool for providing constructive alternatives for urban youth through dance training and mentor relationships, as well as educating the broader community about the positive influences and possibilities of hip-hop culture

Erica Rebollar/Rebollar Dance

Erica Rebollar was born in Madrid. She began her studies at the Washington School of Ballet and completed her Master of Fine Arts degree in choreography at UCLA. She was a three-time Lester Horton Award nominee in Los Angeles, where she produced work at Highways Performance Space. Through an artistic residency with avant-garde theater company Mabou Mines, she presented work at Performance Space 122 and Danspace at St. Mark’s Church in New York. After relocating to Washington, D.C., Erica Rebollar/Rebollar Dance was chosen as a top pick by City Paper’s 2011 Fall Arts Guide. Erica is a 2011 recipient of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Local Dance Commissioning Project grant.

Furia Flamenca

Furia Flamenca brings the ferocity and passion of flamenco to the stage. Furia Flamenca's style combines flamenco's gypsy heritage with modern flamenco choreography to create an elegant balance of motion and energy. Founded by director Estela Velez in 2003, Furia Flamenca adds elements of ballet, modern and tap with flamenco to entice audiences with a range of exciting performances. Furia Flamenca performs at numerous venues throughout the Washington, D.C. area.

Soul In Motion

Soul In Motion African Dancers and Drummers was founded by Michael Friend in 1984. A nonprofit performing arts organization, Soul In Motion’s performances are expressions of the African-American experience highlighting influences from West Africa and Brazil. The group has performed nationally and internationally, including a trip to Senegal in spring 2011. Approaching its 28th anniversary, the ten-member company received the 2011 Montgomery County Executive Community Award for Excellence in the Arts & Humanities.


Tzveta Kassabova

Tzveta Kassabova is a Bulgarian-born independent choreographer, costume designer and installation artist residing in the United States since 1999. At different times she has been a gymnast, physicist and meteorologist. As a dancer, Tzveta performed with choreographer Ed Tyler, Sara Pearson/Patrick Widrig and David Dorfman dance companies. Her work has been presented in Europe and the United States. She has received a Metro DC Dance Award (2008), the Prince George’s Arts Council grant (2009 and 2012) and Maryland State Arts Council Award (2010 and 2011). She holds three master’s degrees.
