Christopher K. Morgan & Artists Christopher K. Morgan & Artists is a professional contemporary dance company whose work stems from a belief in the urgency of live performance in an increasingly isolating, commercial and digital world. Founded in July 2011, as a vehicle for Morgan’s choreographic exploration of social and cultural issues, the company provides a creative outlet for its artists and collaborators through virtuosic and expressive dance performances.
Furia Flamenca Furia Flamenca brings the ferocity and passion of flamenco to the stage. Furia Flamenca's style combines flamenco's gypsy heritage with modern flamenco choreography to create an elegant balance of motion and energy. Founded by director Estela Velez in 2003, Furia Flamenca adds elements of ballet, modern and tap with flamenco to entice audiences with a range of exciting performances. Furia Flamenca performs at numerous venues throughout the Washington, D.C. area.
Jason Ignacio Jason began his dance training at age 12 in Manila, Philippines. He continued training in New York at Ballet Hispanico, where he also served on the faculty. He was named a "Top 20 Showstopper" by Washingtonian Magazine in 2008. In 2009, he won the DC Mayor's Arts Award for Outstanding Emerging Artist and the Metro DC Dance Award for Outstanding Individual Performance. That year he also received the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities' Dance DC Festival grant and was awarded The Kennedy Center's Local Dance Commissioning project.
Karen Reedy Dance Karen Reedy Dance is a professional contemporary dance company committed to the presence and integrity of dance in the metropolitan area. KRD is devoted to nurturing artists through the exploration of new work and collaboration with other art forms. In the community, KRD provides opportunities for education, awareness and appreciation of contemporary dance through live performance and educational programming.
Silk Road Dance Company Silk Road Dance Company presents women’s dances from the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, China and the Caucasus. Founded by Director Dr. Laurel Victoria Gray in 1995, the ensemble’s performances offer a unique glimpse of the life, culture and art of little known regions. The company has been featured performers at events for the Embassies of Egypt, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Russia and are frequently engaged by numerous cultural organizations for festivals and celebrations.
Teelin Irish Dance Company Teelin Irish Dance Company is known for performances that accentuate the energy of Irish dance with envelope-pushing choreography. Director Maureen Gately has extensive training in several dance styles that enhance her mastery of traditional Irish step dance. This innovative style also won her the 2009 Individual Artist Award for Dance Choreography presented by the Maryland State Arts Council.
Washington School of Ballet Founded in 1944, The Washington School of Ballet is recognized for its classical training and dedication to excellence in dance and dance education. Curriculum includes creative movement, pre-ballet, boys’ classes, and a graded program for children through young adulthood, many of whom wish to pursue dance as a career. The school also offers a Professional Training Program that brings together especially talented students from around the world for intensive training under the school’s renowned faculty.
