2008 Finalists
Lillian Bayley Hoover, Baltimore, MD
Lillian Bayley Hoover earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina, Asheville and her Master of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Hoover has been the recipient of Maryland State Arts Council’s Individual Artist Award for both painting and sculpture and was a semi-finalist for Baltimore’s Sondheim Prize in 2006 and 2007. Her work has been exhibited in galleries is Philadelphia, Baltimore and Asheville, NC. Additionally, her work was recently featured on the cover of the 69 th issue of New American Paintings.
Amy Chan, Richmond, VA
Amy Chan holds a Master of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has upcoming solo exhibitions at Bernard Toale Gallery in Boston, MA and at Gallery Em in Seoul, Korea. Her work has been featured in several group exhibitions in New York and at Artnews Projects in Berlin, Germany. She describes her work as stringing together various sources, combining architecture, color and composition from different traditions to create a landscape.
Suzanna Fields, Richmond, VA
Suzanna Fields earned her Master of Fine Arts in painting from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Her solo exhibitions include the Hunt Gallery at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA; Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, VA and the Anderson Gallery in Richmond, VA. Fields’ work has also been featured in group exhibitions at the Scandinavia House in New York, NY; and Artspace and 1708 Gallery in Richmond, VA. Fields was selected as a Trawick Prize finalist in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
Janis Goodman, Washington, D.C.
Janis Goodman has work in international exhibitions in Cortona, Italy; Lima, Peru; Berlin, Germany and Tokyo, Japan. Her artwork is also featured in public collections at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Knoxville Museum of Art in Jackson, TN and the Federal Reserve Board in Richmond, VA. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in painting from George Washington University, D.C. and has had solo exhibitions at Michael Connors Gallery, NY; L.I.P.A. in Chicago, IL and Flashpoint in Washington, D.C
Tom Green, Cabin John, MD
Tom Green has work in public collections at the Guggenheim Museum in NY; the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C. and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Green has twice been awarded an Artist Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts along with two Residency Fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the Mid-Atlantic region since 1965. He also holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Maryland, College Park.  
Sangram Majumdar, Baltimore, MD
Sangram Majumdar has had solo exhibitions at the Ann Nathan Gallery, Wright State University Art Galleries, Indiana University Art Museum, Maryland Institute College of Art, and has an upcoming exhibition at the Painting Center, NY. His awards include the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant and the Tony Munavec Overseas Fellowship to Italy. Majumdar holds a Master of Fine Arts from Indiana University and has been teaching painting and drawing at the Maryland Institute College of Art since 2003.


Katherine Mann, Baltimore, MD

Katherine Mann received her Bachelor of Arts from Brown University, RI and is currently working on her Master of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has had solo exhibits at Red Brick Gallery in Yilan, Taiwan; Guandu National Park in Taipei, Taiwan and Bell Gallery in Providence, RI; and has received the Hoffberger Fellowship from her current college. Mann describes her work as an ever-changing fantasy world where Buddhist symbols, blood clots, rainforests and coral reefs collide and intertwine.


B.G. Muhn, North Potomac, MD

B.G. Muhn studied art at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland and at the University of Maryland, College Park after moving to the United States from South Korea. He has had one person exhibits at the Ilmin Art Museum in Seoul, Korea and the Stefan Stux, Space Untitled and Sigma Galleries in New York and has been in group exhibitions at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Muhn was recently awarded the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist’s Award in Painting.

Bill Schmidt, Baltimore, MD
Bill Schmidt studied at Maryland Institute’s Hoffberger School of Painting and received his Master of Fine Arts before teaching there the following decade. In 2006, he was appointed Director of the Post-Baccalaureate Program. Schmidt has received numerous grants and awards, including two Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Awards and two faculty development grants from MICA. He has also had solo shows at Paperwork Gallery in Baltimore, MD, Hillyer Art Space in Washington, D.C. and St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.
